The Hispanic American Construction Industry Association (HACIA) presented the 2019 Project of the Year Award to CRRC Sifang America for its new Chicago assembly facility at the group’s 40th Annual Awards Banquet in Chicago.
CRRC recently completed its $100 million manufacturing facility on Chicago’s southeast side, returning railcar manufacturing to Chicago after a 50-year absence. The 380,000 square foot facility includes state-of-the-art capabilities for railcar assembly and testing, in addition to warehouse facilities and office space.
“It is an honor to be recognized with the Project of the Year by an organization such as HACIA,” said Marina Popovic, CRRC’s General Legal Counsel. “HACIA’s reputation within the construction industry is second to none and having them as part of the team in the construction of the new facility was a welcome addition.”
CRRC required the developers of the project to maximize MBE and WBE participation for the construction of the site and building. HACIA was engaged by CRRC to ensure best faith efforts were attained to include both minority and women-owned businesses whenever possible throughout construction.
MBE and WBE firms were paid approximately $16 million for the construction of the facility.
