In CRRC’s high-paced facility, our team of experts work to continuously ensure optimal performance- both on the rail tracks and in the office. One such professional is Melisa Arceo, our procurement and logistics administrative assistant.
Melisa works across six different departments at CRRC, giving her a comprehensive understanding of the company’s daily operations and making her an expert at multitasking.
“It was challenging at first because I was given so many different responsibilities at once,” Melisa said. “Every department is unique and has different things to contribute.”
Melisa started as a receptionist at CRRC in February 2022. When the administrative assistant position opened, she seized the opportunity to take on a new role and challenge herself. She continued to take on more responsibility by training two new receptionists.
“I’m always trying to learn more and get involved with new roles,” Melisa said. “I like getting to know more people at CRRC and it’s rewarding to keep expanding my knowledge.”
Administrative assistant might sound like a fairly typical desk job, but not for Melisa. She spends plenty of time on the production floor, whether she’s tracking down an employee, helping with an administrative issue or just checking out the progress on the railcars.
“I enjoy going to the back to see the progress on the railcars and looking at the different stages of production,” Melisa said. “I’m proud that after all our work is done, the railcars are going to be out in the world with people riding them.
Surprisingly, not all Chicago residents are familiar with the significant local railcar production. Even Melisa’s own friends and family were impressed when they learned of CRRC’s local manufacturing capabilities.
“It was a pleasant surprise for them to discover this hidden gem for manufacturing in Chicago,” she said. “It’s exciting to be part of the production of the next generation of CTA railcars.”
