When Javinn “Jay” Brown first started working as a production assembler in 2019, he never thought he would advance so quickly in CRRC. Since then, he progressed from his initial role to a production supervisor, managing a team focused on building the railcar exterior.

“Jay has grown tremendously since starting at CRRC,” said CRRC Production Manager Ernest Stanford. “His leadership skills and eagerness to learn make him an invaluable team member.”

“When I first started working at CRRC, I wanted to learn about every aspect of production,” Brown said.

Brown is proud of the growth he’s had personally at CRRC, but he’s equally proud to be collaborating with a team that shares his strong work ethic and ambition.

“You just grow a bond with your coworkers, and they start to see they share the same goal that you have: to come to work, do great, improve, and keep going,” he said.

Brown, who has also assumed the role of tour guide of the facility in Chicago’s South Side, enjoys the opportunity to work with and inspire students interested in manufacturing. Brown knows the students he interacts with look up to him, and he takes that responsibility seriously.

“I just want to be somebody who motivates younger generations to keep pushing forward,” Brown said. “I want younger generations to see someone young who is still growing and becoming more professional, getting into a career, and just taking the proper steps to keep elevating and growing.”

When asked what his family and friends think of his work at CRRC, Brown says they are proud of his progress not just professionally, but also at a personal level.

“This job brings a lot of different challenges and adversity, and they’re seeing me grow as a person.”
