CHICAGO – Newly hired CRRC Sifang America production workers who will be responsible for assembling the new railcars for the Chicago Transit Authority arrived in China to undergo hands-on training by CRRC, the leading global manufacturer of passenger railcars.
“I’m excited have the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of railcar manufacturing by the experts who build passenger railcars for systems across the globe,” said Perry Nobles, CRRC Sifang America employee. “This is an incredible opportunity to increase my current skills, while bringing the knowledge and expertise back to Chicago.”
Twenty electrical and sheet metal workers left for Qingdao, China to spend 30 days receiving training at CRRC’s parent company.
“Our new CRRC employees are receiving highly specialized railcar assembly training in China. But more importantly each production worker will bring their new expertise back to Chicago,” said Keith Evans, Manager, Human Resources, CRRC Sifang America. “We are working with our parent company to ensure we are equipping our team with the skills needed to deliver safe, reliable railcars for public transit agencies across the country.”
The initial group of production workers who are being trained in China will build the first ten prototypes of the 7000 Series railcars being produced for the Chicago Transit Authority. This group of highly skilled workers will train future employees hired at the facility as production of the railcars moves into full production in 2021.
