As winter storm Gerri loomed upon the region this past January, Chicagoans braced for the familiar trifecta of heavy snow, blizzard conditions and bone-chilling temperatures. However, as Chicagoans bundled up for the deep freeze, a sign of reliability emerged in the form of the Series 7000 railcars, standing tall against the city’s formidable weather.
As the city dealt with winter storm Gerri, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) stood as a lifeline for residents navigating the frigid conditions. With temperatures plummeting to perilous lows, the reliability of the CTA’s fleet of railcars became paramount.
Recognizing the strain extreme weather imposes on any mechanical vehicle, the After-sales team from CRRC volunteered to work multiple frigid nights with CTA employees to ensure the 7000 Series railcars were primed and ready for service each morning.
“This was the first deep freeze since the new 7000 Series railcars went into operation and we wanted to be on site with the CTA to respond to any challenges that may arise,” said Ryan Derden, CRRC Site Manager. “Fortunately, each of the 7000 Series railcars performed flawlessly as expected and were ready for service each morning during the subzero temperatures that lasted several days.”
Despite the relentless offensive of winter’s fury, the railcars were no match against Chicago’s harshest winter weather. The 7000 Series passed the frigid weather test with flying colors.
The team of professionals building the 7000 Series on the southeast side of Chicago take pride in every railcar they deliver as they are built in Chicago, by Chicagoans for Chicagoans.
